2010 Governor Lachlan Macquarie, A Bicentenary 1810-1821 PNC. Two hundered years ago Lachlan Macquarie (1762 -1824) arrived in the colony of New South Wales. During his term as governor, Macquarie provided an important vision of the colony. He not only changed the appearance of the colony by building new churches, convict barracks and lighthouses, he also believed that former convicts, known as emancipists, should have all their rights reinstated and be fully restored to society.
